A reward is a promise, and a waitlist can run for months before you have to keep it. The rewards that hold up are the ones that cost little at scale, mean something to the person you want on the list, and cannot be trivially gamed. The ones that backfire are the ones chosen in a hurry: a cash prize that attracts people who want the money rather than the product, a physical item that turns out to be impossible to ship to half the list, or a single top prize that motivates ten competitors and demoralizes everyone below them. This worksheet lays the whole ladder out on one page so those problems show up before launch rather than after.

Fill in one row per tier, from the plain signup with no referrals to the highest milestone you intend to honor. The example rows below are illustrative; the thresholds, costs, and redemption estimates are yours to replace. Once the ladder is drafted, enter the tiers into the Referral Reward Budget Calculator at /tools/referral-reward-budget/ to total the exposure, and read /blog/referral-rewards-that-work/ and /blog/psychology-of-a-leaderboard/ for the reasoning behind a ladder of reachable milestones. The fraud column matters most on the top rows, which is where /blog/avoiding-fake-referrals/ becomes required reading.
